Law Courses in India is all set to witness a major change.The Bar Council of India (BCI) has decided to fix a age limit for candidates seeking admissions in law courses and has scrapped the provision of given a bachelor degree in social legal sciences after three years to the students pursuing five years law honours course.
Further, apart from making 70% attendance compulsory, the apex body has also decided to issue a unique identification number to every students so that those who are disqualified may not take admission elsewhere through fraudulent way.

The new norms of BCI have fixed 19 years as the maximum age limit for seeking admission in five years honours course and 30 years for those who want to pursue LLB three years course.

The BCI has also decided that candidates pursuing LLB course will not be able to take admission simultaneously in any diploma course.

Regarding admissions, the BCI has fixed 45% minimum marks for general and OBC candidates and 40% for SC/ST candidates. The semester system has also been defined. Now every semester will of 15 weeks with 30 hours of classes every week.

While In law five years course a student will now have to study 36 papers, in LLB three years course number of papers will be 28. Law five years is open for students after class 12th. Minimum qualification for admissions in LLB three years is graduation. However, in the long run, BCI also intends to phase out the three years course. It also plans to introduce science, commerce and arts in LLB curriculum to produce graduate specialists in different branches.
