The Osmania University has postponed PG examinations indefinitely owing to the tension on campus and will now start the next semester classes from January 22.

In the wake of violent protest by students in the Osmania University (OU) campus in Hyderabad on Wednesday, the authorities have decided to cancel all examinations except for the engineering, pharmacy and hotel management courses.

“In view of the volatile situation, all semester exams except of the engineering, pharmacy and hotel management courses are cancelled,” According to OU Vice-Chancellor T Tirupathi Rao.

He said even though exams have been cancelled, classes for the next semester of various courses would commence from January 22.

“We are hoping that if we cancel all holidays, including summer vacation, we will be able to save the academic year. The classes will begin on January 22 and will go on till May,” the VC said. He added that the postponed examinations might be held a month after the commencement of classes. “Even if disturbance continues on the campus, we will conduct the examinations of all the semesters in May to save the academic year,” Rao said.

To a query, the VC said the university will identify all such cases with regard to foreign students studying at OU and if required, would hold special exams for such candidates. “This would enable the foreign students who are on VISA to write exams,” the VC added.

OU semester examinations, which were scheduled to begin from January 19, were cancelled following the death of K Venugopal Reddy, an MCA student who allegedly committed suicide by setting himself ablaze at OU Campus for the cause of Telangana.
